What does NV mode do on Sightmark Ultra Shot A-Spec and M-Spec series red dots? (SM26032 and SM26035)
The Night Vision mode on corresponding Wraith models when activated works by dimming the reticle to where the brightness does not distort your night vision device.
This is practical for two reasons:
1) The brightness of the reticle at night does not distort or distract the eye from the sight picture or target acquisition and
2) In a tactical environment the brightness of the reticle is subtle and does not potentially give away the user's position from the light emitting from the sight.
NV mode was not designed to actually allow you to see better at night with the naked eye. It is solely a brightness setting for the reticle that dims it enough to be used in conjunction with other night vision devices, such as PVS-14s.
