Handgun Mounted Red Dots
Red dot optics and firearms are no stranger to each other. Recently however, optics on handguns has become increasing popular. There are thousands of options out there and many ways to customize your handgun but there a couple things you need to know first.
Unlike traditional optics that mount to a picatinny or weaver rail, pistol mounted optics are typically mounted either directly to the handgun slide or an adapter plate is used to secure the optic to the firearm. The layout design of an RDS is known as the footprint. Different brands offer their optics in varying footprints. Furthermore, not all handguns will accept all optics. The two things we need to check to ensure that a sight is compatible with a firearm is to make sure that the firearm can accept the footprint of said optic. The Sightmark MiniShot M-Spec and A-Spec share the same footprint. The footprint layout is known as a doctor/vortex/burris cutout. This means any handgun that has either a slide cut specifically for this footprint, or one that has an adapter to accommodate this footprint will work with our optic. The Sightmark Minishot A-Spec M3 is different from the other two models based on its footprint. The M3 footprint share the same design as the Shield RMSC and Sig Romeo Zero optics.
While this list is not extensive and subject to change here is a list of current production guns and the optics, we offer that will work with them.
